The wonders of daylight savings time

I heard last night on Fox News that helicopters fighting the fires in California have to cease operations when the sun goes down. Luckily, the reporter repeatedly said, the extra hour of sunlight due to the early daylight savings time change this year was going to help a lot.

Newsflash: the numbers we assign to times of the day do not affect the earth's rotation nor its orbit around the sun. We have exactly the same amount of daylight as before, we've just adjusted our schedules by an hour so we can enjoy more of it after work.
