Linux system clock running too fast in Virtual Server 2005?

After months of difficulty with my Linux virtual machine's system clock running too fast, I found a Microsoft KB article explaining how to fix this problem. Apparently, all you have to do is add a kernel parameter (clock=pit) to make Linux keep correct time under Virtual Server 2005.
